Dreaming of weddings has even more of an emotional pull now that so many couple’s are rescheduling their weddings due to the coronavirus. We’ve had all of our April and May weddings move their dates, and many of them have opted for a fall wedding this year. So with that in mind, I thought I’d share a little inspiration from Nikita and Joe’s wedding in Beaver Creek, Colorado last September.

From the moment we arrived at the Sheraton Beaver Creek to capture the girl’s getting ready, we knew this wedding day was going to be full of gorgeous moments and all the feels. The pops of red from the bridesmaid’s dresses to the roses in Nikita’s bouquet, were so perfect for this gorgeous fall day.

It’s not every wedding that we get to capture the part where all the girls are together before they’re dressed and ready to walk down the aisle, so these relaxed moments full of laughter with one another were extra special. We loved the way her friends supported her in all different ways, and when they saw her for the first time in her dress there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

The first look

One thing that didn’t go as planned was our plan for the first look! We thought we had a beautiful location for this mapped out, but when we got there we were detoured. It took a little creativity, and a lot of flexibility, but I think this little spot near the chairlift ended up being absolutely perfect for their first moments together on their wedding day.

The ride to the top was probably one of THE most important moments to Nikita and Joe! Having spent a lot of time vacationing with family in the area, this was incredibly meaningful. I had never shot on chairlifts until this wedding and wasn’t sure what to except. It was a much longer ride to the top than I was expecting so it was so much fun to have them try different things, but mostly they just snuggled were effortless to capture as they took in the moment alone together.

The wedding ceremony was incredibly special as they had Leon Joseph Littlebird, who was also their officiant, help create a special wedding ceremony based in Native American traditions. From laughter to tears, to so many sacred rituals in between, it was absolutely unforgettable.

When it was time to come down the mountain, we waited for shuttles to take us over to SaddleRidge where all their guests were enjoying cocktails before dinner. We were able to go out with just the bride & groom and capture a quiet moment with them among the perfect yellow aspens at the back of the property.

Then it was time to celebrate! Nikita and Joe and their families sure know how to party! From perfectly choreographed dances to a delicious 3 course meal, toasts that had everyone rolling on the floor with laughter and then happy tears, to the most epic garter and bouquet tosses I’ve ever seen- it was absolutely a wedding to remember. I think all their guests will easily be talking about how theirs was one of the best weddings they’ve ever attended.

We want to share a note of gratitude for all the incredible vendors that this couple brought together to make thier day happen!
